I live and work in Sussex. I studied Fine Art at Wolverhampton Polytechnic where most of my work was sculptural. Ten years ago I discovered a painting medium that combined my more spontaneous working technique with my enjoyment of creating form. Most of my paintings are inspired by my love of colour and nature. I spend many hours taking photographs and use these to aid my memory of visits to farms, gardens and countryside and give me a springboard to start my paintings.
I use oil paint mixed with glaze medium. I work on the floor which allows me the freedom to be quite physical with the paint. I am trying to create a feeling of movement to reflect the vitality of the world around us. I love exploring colour combinations and often start my paintings by using a fluorescent acrylic ground. My work varies in scale but most of it is quite large to allow me to achieve gestural marks that reflect the body's range of arm movements.
